Whether you take off the cover or cover up, we encourage you to dig your toes in the sand. Be you and enjoy it. Along with Looking Good’s Terance Coffee and myself, Avis Carter of JC Cover Me/ Fashazon TV producer, and Lindsay Rae, Body Image Activist, we have tips to guide you back to the beach and streets with confidence.

Swimsuit are a sign of good times ahead. When you think of a swimsuit, you begin to think of a resort, the ocean, time spent with friends, vacation, essentially a time people feel like they can escape.

The C-Word

Lindsay Rae, Body Image Activist proudly wears a size 20 as she talks about the C-word, confidence. “We hear people say the only way to be ready for the beach is if their body is in a specific shape, that tends to be slender, tan, and flawless,” which is impossible for all to achieve.

Lindsay is spreading her mission, telling people the only thing it takes to enjoy the beach to the streets this summer is a “bathing suit and a body. And walk out the door.” And SPF. True Self — Love involves no judgment. It’s about one little step every time. Acknowledge and release the parts of your body you struggle with, like stretch marks, scars, cellulite. “You don’t need to cover your body in order to feel safe when you go out.”

On trending colors, Lindsay sees neutrals as a swim essential that works for everyone, and yellow. “2020 was a bust. We’re reclaiming yellow. As I look at fashion, I see consistent shades of the sunset tones, with yellow, pinks, and oranges.”

Lindsay advises her clientele to wear a high-waisted black bottom for women as a flattering must-have for their summer kit, at least one and a half to two inches above the belly button, a classic 1950s 1960s vintage silhouette. She’s also seeing more comfortable cute women’s boxer shorts, cupped tops and rouching. “It’s about giving the eye clean lines.”

Accessorize to make it your own and give the confidence you need to be unique, with belts, fun glasses, big hats, and sandals. As for SPF, “Supergoop is our favorite sunscreen. When we use sunscreen, we set the example for our kids that SPF is cool.

Lindsay’s works revolve around the stripping down of societal standards of beauty, as she guides women overcome body insecurity and reclaim self-worth. A professional photographer, she uses all the tricks of the industry to disassemble negative thought patterns derived from the beauty propaganda we are all faced with. She does this through speaking, and through her Self Love Experience Photography sessions. Find Lindsay Rae at https://bodyimageactivist.com/ or thebodyimageactivist

Wrap with versatility with Avis Carter

Avis Carter is a multi-faceted entrepreneur with a line of head wraps and jewelry called JC Cover Me, a network Fashazon TV on ZondraTV, and a book that’s about to be released. She’s also a librarian, passionate about the Dewey Decimal System as “it’s all about order.”

Avis lived and worked in Japan for five years and while traveling the world, her love for fashion resurfaced.

To get back to the streets and beach, Avis said “You have to have fun with your fashion. Fashion is how you carry yourself throughout life. Wraps are your glam accessory for style.” JC Covers Me says “Lord, Jesus Christ, Cover Me.” because she believes “the lord takes care and covers me.”

Growing up, as an African American woman, Avis’s family believed in covering up. As she got older, she still covers up which is why she shares about the versatility of a wrap. There are many ways to wrap: Wear it as a drape when you go to the beach. When you are traveling, a wrap lets you change your look in a matter of seconds.

Yellow looks powerful and will change your whole look.

Avis advises that a good size for a wrap is 27” by 12”, though you can be chic, versatile, and fun with other sizes, which she teaches people how to do on Looking Good ep9 and on her platforms. A wrap allows you to be transformed.

Avis is about to release her book, “If Not Him, Then For Whom,” her story about a woman’s journey through love, marriage, tragedy and triumph. In this intense personal memoir, she shares about the loss of her husband and how it taught her the hard lesson to “appreciate people while you are with them.”

She also talks about how you can change the fabric of your journey with one stitch. We all have favorite fabrics. Hers is goat cashmere, because it is uniquely coarse and takes a while to grow, great for the streets. Her second preferred fabric is silk, which is smooth on the outside and rough on the inside, which protects you. Life is like care instructions of clothing: Apply the handle with care to yourself.

As an entrepreneur, how do you do it all? “Never give up your journey, one fabric square at a time.

You’re Looking Good, You As You Are Are

Looking Good TV hosts, Daniella Platt & Terance Coffee share tips to guide you back to the beach and streets with confidence, and style, because your inner you — matters.

First, wear a Swim Suit 3 Ways: Versatility is key. Men’s swimsuits can be made with fabric that is useful for the ocean, athleisure, to zoom. Woman can wear a one-piece swimsuit beyond the beach or with shorts or pants to go out. Pop on a blazer for work or a meeting.

Happy Colors. Spread joy by wearing colorful shades like aqua, orange, and yellow, or neon. Color stimulates the brain, causes people to smile which elicits dopamine and other happy molecules. Try shades of brown such as espresso or toffee, if you usually wear navy and black.

Cut It Out! Keep it fun with asymmetrical shapes and fun cutouts.

Your Body is your temple! “Even if you put on some pounds during Covid, it’s okay,” according to Terance Coffee. “Be patient with your body. Love yourself first.” Wear coverups as a gateway back to the beach and focus on being confident, in the moment.
